North Cascades National Park is located in northwestern United States, and the northwest corner of Washington state. North Cascades National Park contains 684,302 acres of forests, mountains, glaciers, lakes, rivers and trails. There is many wildlife to be seen in the North Cascades National Park, such trees are Douglas fir, red cedar, hemlock, and Ponderosa pine trees. There is an annual average of fewer than 400,000 visitors a year. Best weather is from mid-June to late- September and storms are common. Heavy rain and snow charecterize high elevations from fall to spring. Avalanches are common in winter and spring in the higher elevations. Summer temperatures reach as high as 90's F. Most popular site is Cascade Pass Trail, a trail that gives spectacular views of mountain peaks and glaciers. Busy during the summer, and gives hikers many different direction in which they can explore.

History: North Cascades National park was apart of other national parks before becoming its own on October 2, 1968. The first act of preservation was when North Cascades National park was placed within the newly created Washington Forest reserve in 1897. Later, this area became part of the Mt. Baker National Forest in 1924. This park was finally created by President Lyndon Johnson by signing a bill. Fur-traders began to explore this region as early as the 1700's and until 1882 a man named Henry Pierce finally breached the mountains.

Environmental Issuses: Like most national parks in the western part of America, North Cascades National park is subject of global warming. Global warming is destroying the fragile wildlife habitat, putting animals at risk of becoming extinct and transforming the American landscape. The temperature has risen twice as fast in the western United States then the Eastern United States in the last 50 years. Report says that if trends continues by 2030 many of the glaciers and ice caves will have melted in North Cascades National Park.

Recreational Activities: Like most national parks, North Cascades National park is home to some of the more common activities. One is camping in one of the many hiking spots available, some are even open year round. If camping is not for you, then there is hiking in which you can explore over 386 miles of trails. If you want to experience the aqua life you can then can go boating, safety is advised because even in summer where you can experience hypothermia. Last is that you can then go hunting and/or fishing if one wants to.
